NEW DELHI: The students of Jamia Millia Islamia staged a protest in the university premises against the visit of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehooba Muft today to inaugurate a women’s hosteli.

The protest was organized by a coterie of Kashmiri students in the campus although all participated. “ Our conscience does not allow us to welcome on our campus Rajnath Singh and Mehbooba Mufti.” the students said.

“Mr Home Minister where is Najeeb?” one of the plea cards read along with “AFSPA Hatav”, “Say No to Pellets”, and “Occupations are not resolved, they are ended.” The plight of Dalits and tribal students was also raised at the protest. Some of the students registered their protest with poetry and songs.

Only two weeks ago, Jamia Millia Islamia was in news for the protests and hunger strikes held by the students demanding restoration of the students union. The hunger strike lasted for more than a week when at last the VC offered to negotiate.
