NEW DELHI: Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, two students of Jawaharlal Nehru University accused of sedition, were granted bail by the Patiala House court in Delhi on Friday. The full bail order can be read here.
Khalid and Bhattacharya went straight to the JNU campus on being released, where they were met with cheering students, well-wishers and general supporters. The JNU Students Union called for a victory march from Ganga Dhaba, with Khalid and Anirban joining in the celebrations. Aban Raza was at JNU and described the atmosphere as “electrifying.”
Greeted by chants of ‘lal salaam’ and ‘red salute’, Khalid addressed the large gathering. “We are proud of the fact that we were booked under a law under which great freedom fighters of our country were booked,” said Khalid.
