NEW DELHI: With February 7 finally set as the date for the Delhi Assembly elections, campaigning is picking up. Aam Aadmi Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal held a press conference accusing the Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay of corruption and claimed that the BJP chief had questionable links with the power distribution companies (discoms) in the national capital.

The former Delhi chief minister said that he could prove the nexus between Upadhyay and certain power distribution companies, saying firms owned by the latter were installing and repairing meters for the discoms in Delhi.

He accused the BJP of cheating people and not honoring its poll promise of cutting cut power rates by 30 percent. This is a major grouse of Delhi voters, more so as Kejriwal in his short stint did make good his promise of bringing down the electricity bills.

"Satish Upadhya and Ashish Sood have shareholding in an electricity firm Infomedia Private Limited, which supplies electricity meters to BSES,' Kejriwal alleged. He said that the BJP chief was the major stakeholder in the firm while Sood was the Director.

He also alleged that Upadhyay is associated with six companies NCNL Infomedia, New Delhi Communication Network, NCNL Infrastructure, FabrilonTwilles (India), NCNLTransomedia and NCNL Power.

Meanwhile refuting Kejriwal's allegations Upadhyay said, 'Kejriwal is running a factory of lies.' He said he will quit politics if the AAP leader is proves the allegations. "Kejriwal is running a factory of lies. He is trying to damage me and the BJP ahead of Delhi Assembly election," Upadhyay said.

Upadhya added that If Kejriwal failed to substantiate his allegations, then he would file a defamation case against him.

'I will file a defamation case against Kejriwal if he fails to prove the allegations in the next 24 hours,' he added.

The 70 member Assembly election in Delhi is seen as a direct contest between AAP and BJP.
