GUWAHATI: Team India’s latest fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed said that he is taking the current series very seriously as a part of the preparation for the world cup.

Khaleel who made his debut during the Asian Cup against Hong Kong has played two matches in the Asia Cup and picked up 4 wickets.

“This series is my preparation for the World Cup. I will try to perform better and take more wickets in the ODIs before the World Cup which will boost up my confidence. Then it will take the pressure off me,” Khaleel told reporters ahead the first ODI against the West Indies in Guwahati, on Friday.

On the West Indies team which suffered a white-wash in the two-test series earlier this month, the 20-year old left-arm pacer said that they can’t take the visitors lightly.

“West Indies plays good cricket with the white ball. It will be a different ball game. I will try to take more wickets and especially it will be how I bowl in the death overs,” he added.

Khaleel who plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad also felt that because of his pace and extra bounce, he has been selected for the team.

Zaheer Khan whom he regards as his idol has been a great help, he said.

“I have spent two years with Zaheer bhai in Delhi Daredevils. We played in different conditions during IPL and he always kept discussing on how to bowl on different surfaces. It’s been great help. Even other seniors have been great help. They constantly keep on motivating me whenever I feel low. I don’t feel like a junior member,” he added.
