SRINAGAR: In a major setback to the National Conference in Ganderbal constituency in Jammu and Kashmir, hundreds of party workers protested against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's close confident and Provincial President of the National Conference Nasir Aslam Wani after he allegedly lost his cool and kicked a party worker during a convention.

According to the eye witnesses , senior NC leader Nasir Aslam kicked the party worker repeatedly after he registered his resentment against party politics.

"Wani lost his cool and came down from the stage and repeatedly kicked a party worker" eyewitnesses told The Citizen adding that after the incident workers raised anti NC slogans and threatened to boycott the elections if the party leaders did not change their attitude towards the party workers.

According to the sources the NC is facing a major political crisis in Ganderbal constituency after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah recently decided not to contest from Ganderbal constituency.

Sources added that NC has decided to field senior leader Sheikh Ishfaq from the constituency but he is facing tough opposition from the workers who want Omar Abdullah to contest again from the Ganderbal assembly segment.

This is not the first incident of this kind.

In April this year, Minister for Higher Education Muhammad Akbar Lone had humiliated a youth when he tried to voice his specific problems to the chief minister during an election rally in North Kashmir's Baramulla district.

Earlier also many NC workers, including some leaders, had warned the party top brass about its arrogant attitude pointing out that if this was not changed the party would face severe defeat.
