SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Tuesday said his conglomerate is going to hold a detailed discussion on Syed Ali Geelani’s recent proposal of unity among the separatist groups.

“In the next executive council meeting of our conglomerate, we are going to have a detailed discussion on unity call given by Geelani sahib,” Mirwaiz told Rising Kashmir.

Agreeing with Hurriyat (G) chairman’s concerns, Mirwaiz said unity among separatists has become need of the hour in view of hardline approach of Modi government.

“Modi government has made its intentions clear to divide Kashmir on communal lines. I think it is right time for separatists to get united and come on a common platform and formulate a joint strategy to counter the rigid policies of New Delhi,” he said.

Mirwaiz, however, said final call on Geelani’s unity proposal will be taken by executive committee of the conglomerate after discussing all the parameters including conditions set by Hurriyat (G) chairman for the alliance.

“It is important that all members of Hurriyat (M) should reach a consensus before taking any decision,” he said.

Mirwaiz said for a greater cause of Kashmir resolution, Hurriyat (M) has always been in favour of unity among the separatist leadership.

“We have always pitched for unity. Our doors were always open for all separatist leadership for collectively taking Kashmir struggle to its logical conclusion,” he said.

According to Geelani, unity will be forged only with those parties and individuals, who won’t take part in dialogue process under Indian constitution or accept four point formula, soft borders, status-quo or any other out of box solution to the Kashmir issue.

The Hurriyat (G) chief had invited all ‘like-minded’ separatist leaders for unity to devise a joint strategy to tackle the “dangerous policies” of Modi government regarding the Kashmir issue. Meanwhile, Hurriyat (G) Majlis Shoora has formed three-member committee headed by its general secretary Ghulam Nabi Sumji to bring separatists on a common platform.

The committee has held a meeting with senior leader of Hurriyat Conference JK (HCJK) Shabir Ahmad Shah on Sunday.

“We have started the process of uniting separatist in a single platform. All separatist leaders will be invited to join hands,” Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar said.

Stating that no conditions have been attached for unity among the separatist camp, he said, “We have only reminded that all separatist leaders had agreed and pledged to follow constitution of unified Hurriyat in 1993 when it was drafted. There should not be any impediments in unity moves if leadership believes in Hurriyat constitution”.

Meanwhile, Dukhtaran-e-Millat chairperson Asiya Andrabi has supported Geelani’s unity call and urged all separatist leaders to come under one banner to streamline and strengthen the struggle.
