My brain nearly shut down after my last article on life after death in which I was connecting dots between science and medicine, the scriptures, mysticism and what have you. And I didn’t get the mental rest I needed. I think I should ask Arif Nizami my editor to give me four weeks leave to recuperate before there is a complete shutdown, both mental and physical. Or maybe I can write every fortnight until I descend back into the depths of the stupidity, cruelty and avarice of this world’s politics, economics, legal systems and every other systems, doctrines, social and political constructs and yes, religions, by which humankind or Homo sapiens specifically, for all ‘homo’ species are human. The jewel of God’s creation, as He calls Homo sapiens, is looting God-gifted vault of gems and jewels and destroying itself, other species and the Earth. I still feel that clericalism and politics have done most to destroy the world and perhaps all existence on Earth. Forget them. Let them continue on their perfidious path. Let us continue on our quest.

For a non-scientist like me, an early student of Faith and its original scriptures, the myriad religions man has woven around Faith, an apprentice seeker of the Truth by understanding, much less traversing, the mystical path, you will appreciate that such quests are pretty tiring journeys, but full of excitement with the dawning of understanding and wonderment like the lifting of a veil, but it is only understanding based on the latest findings. Later generations of seekers will find more understanding and more wondrous concepts and things to behold in their mind’s eye. For a scientist or a highly evolved mystic it would have been as easy as falling off a log, but not for me. I have so much reading to catch up with and such little time.

One book, ‘Biocentrism: How Life and Consciousness are the Keys to Understanding of the Universe’ by Dr. Robert Lanza has particularly caught my attention not least because it has caused a storm on the Internet. The ‘New York Times’ voted Dr. Lanza the third most important scientist alive. He claims “life does not end when the body dies and it can last forever” and “has no doubts that this is possible”.

Scientists claim that quantum theory proves – note that they have used the word ‘proves’ – that consciousness moves to another universe after death. Note again that they have said “another universe” not another ‘dimension’, though this might just be semantics since another universe is another dimension or dimensions.

An article on Dr. Lanza tells us that he “…is an expert in regenerative medicine and was scientific director of Advanced Cell Technology Company. Later he “became known for his extensive research with stem cells and then for “several successful experiments on cloning endangered animal species.” Later still he “became involved with physics, quantum mechanics and astrophysics…This explosive mixture has given birth to the new theory of biocentrism, which the professor has been preaching ever since. Biocentrism teaches that life and consciousness are fundamental to the universe.”

Now wrap your mind around this: “It is consciousness that creates the material universe, not the other way around.”

Can you beat this? The Creator did not create matter first – the ‘big bang’, the universe, liquids, gasses, solids, gravity, galaxies, stars, planets, moons, atmospheres and what have you so that consciousness could be created by it in solid things like humans beings with life – it is consciousness that existed ab initio that created what we call matter and the material world. Thus consciousness does not need matter – the human body and brain – to exist, but the other way round – matter needs consciousness. On the earth plane our brains are only there to house consciousness on earth, but without matter – death of the body, end of the universe – consciousness continues to exist as it did earlier and be better off after being freed from the cage of the brain. It would also be freed from two-dimensional existence in linear time and roam to acquire more knowledge and understanding. After saying this I should not fear death; on the contrary I should look forward to such an empowering experience.

Could it mean that the entity that we call God the Creator is a huge, limitless consciousness, without beginning or end, omnipotent and omnipresent, so powerful that he can just will (or imagine) something to happen and it happens? After all, what else could the Command “Let there be light” or “Kun” – “Fayakun” – “Be and it came into being” mean? I will try and expound on this in later articles.

“Lanza points to the structure of the universe itself, and that the laws, forces, and constants of the universe appear to be fine-tuned for life, implying intelligence existed prior to matter. He claims that space and time are not objects or things, but rather tools of our animal understanding. Lanza says that we carry space and time around with us ‘like turtles with shells’, meaning that when the shell comes off (space and time), we still exist.”

“Lanza implies that death of consciousness simply does not exist. It only exists as a thought because people identify themselves with their body. They believe that the body is going to perish, sooner or later, thinking that their consciousness will disappear too. If the body generates consciousness, then consciousness dies when the body dies. But if the body receives consciousness in the same way that a cable box receives satellite signals, then of course consciousness does not end at the death of the physical vehicle. In fact, consciousness exists outside of constraints of time and space. It is able to be anywhere: in the human body and outside it. In other words, it is non-local in the same sense that quantum objects are non-local.”

This is getting quite heavy, at least for me. “Alice: ‘How long is forever’? White Rabbit: ‘Sometimes, just one second’. When you are freed of your body you are simultaneously freed of time and space. Then, “forever” could only be a second” and you can be anywhere and everywhere at the same time. Perhaps not even a second but simultaneously, for you could be in many places at the same time. And even on the earth plane, you could be living many lives or probable outcomes simultaneously in the multiverse.

For example, Dr. Lanza “also believes that multiple universes can exist simultaneously” – “God of all the universes” as the Quran says.

Then there is Dr. Robert Lanza’s notion: “In one universe, the body can be dead. And in another it continues to exist, absorbing consciousness, which migrated into this universe. This means that a dead person while travelling through the same tunnel ends up not in hell or heaven, but in a similar world he or she once inhabited, but this time alive. And so on, infinitely. It’s almost like a cosmic Russian doll afterlife effect.”

Undoubtedly Dr. Lanza’s theory is “extremely controversial” but it has many supporters, including well-known scientists. “These are physicists and astrophysicists who tend to agree with the existence of parallel worlds and who suggest the possibility of multiple universes. Multiverse is a so-called scientific concept, which they defend. They believe that no physical laws exist which would prohibit the existence of parallel worlds.”

“The fact that our universe is not alone is supported by data received from the Planck space telescope. Using the data, scientists have created the most accurate map of the microwave background, the so-called cosmic relic background radiation, which has remained since the inception of our universe. They also found that the universe has a lot of dark recesses represented by some holes and extensive gaps.”

Laura Mersini-Houghton, the theoretical physicist from the North Carolina University and her colleagues say that anomalies in the microwave background exist because “our universe is influenced by other universes existing nearby” and “holes and gaps are a direct result of attacks on us by neighboring universes.”

‘Attacks’? Maybe, but it could be a bad choice of word. If not, wait for another version of ‘Star Wars: the Wars of the Universes’.

I could go on with my musings but I’m still finding it difficult to rationally wrap my mind around this. So please let me pause, catch my breath and come back to you again next week or after a fortnight. I am not happy with the way I have written this article and will return to these findings later to try and explain them better, at least to myself. For nothing clarifies the mind better than writing.
