SRINAGAR: A number of women in Kashmir protested today over the abrogation of Article 370. Carrying placards saying 'Release all detainees', 'Respect fundamental rights' and 'Dignity and justice for all' a group of women came together in peaceful protest at Lal Chowk to raise a voice until they were dispersed by security forces. The protesters included Suraya Mattoo, sister of former CM Farooq Abdullah, his daughter Safia Abdullah Khan, and members of civil society Qurat ul Ain, Muslim Jan and educationist and activist Hawa Bashir, wife of former J&K chief justice Bashir Ahmed Khan.

AP reported a joint statement by the protesters which said they felt "betrayed, humiliated and violated." They called for the immediate release of hundreds of people under detention and the restoration of civil liberties and people's fundamental rights. 13 women were reportedly arrested by police.
