NEW DELHI: Badaun is back again to haunt Uttar Pradesh. In an eerie similarity to last year’s shocker, two minor sisters have again allegedly been raped by five men at gunpoint in the Jarif Nagar area of the district.

The sisters went out to the fields to relieve themselves on Tuesday night when the men allegedly raped them at gunpoint.

All five accused, including two brothers, have been arrested by the police and have been charged for gangrape under the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO). "A case has been lodged and the girls were sent for medical examination… on the complaint of father of one of the girls. The other girl is his niece,” " said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Saumitra Yadav.

The accused were nabbed by the locals when the girls’ screams drew their attention . Locals have reported to have caught the men in act with the girls being held captive at gunpoint. The men were roughed up before being handed over to the police.

While the medical report is still awaited, the girls, along with the accused will be produced before the magistrate today.

Last year, a similar case had come up when two minor cousins, 14 and 15, had gone missing in the night and then the next morning were found hanging from a tree. The case which had been far and wide decried as a brazen act of rape and murder by the members of UP’s dominant castes, had brought ignominy to the Akhilesh government. The Central Bureau of Investigation later claiming that it was neither a rape nor a murder. The case is pending decision by the courts.
