Gang-raped for Revenge, Girl Commits Suicide

NEW DELHI: A 16 year old committed suicide in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh after she was allegedly raped by a group hostile to her mother.

Police inaction, and refusal to lodge a complaint, made the girl kill herself after she was raped.

Members of a rival gang kidnapped the minor, a Class 11 student, to take revenge against her mother who had won the panchayat elections to the local Block Development Council. The victim’s family managed to rescue her, but were unable to get the local police to take cognisance of the rape and lodge a complaint. Depressed and traumatised the young girl allegedly committed suicide.

A police FIR was registered only after the girl had committed suicide. As per the media reports, the girl was raped by two members of the opposition group.

The police has finally arrested Pappu Baheliya and Bindu baheliya, the culprits whom the girl named when she along with family first visited the police station. Both the accused have been charged under the relevant sections under POCSO 2012.

It has been confirmed by the police that the girl was gang-raped after having been kidnapped.
