NEW DELHI: Bombay high court found an interesting way to shame the molesters of women when they awarded four such offenders the punishment to clean roads for a day every week for the next months.

All four men were arrested in October last year under the charges of half murder and molesting women. It happened during the navratri season when the men, who are from Bhiwandi, came to Naupada to play dandiya in a drunken state. There they started to misbehave with women. A man who was accompanying the women was also beaten by them when he tried to intervene and asked them to stop.

According to the complaint, the men then were apprehended from one Chandanwadi pandal by its people and handed over to the police.

The convicts, identified as Amit Adkhale, Aniket Jadhav, Milind More and Suhas Thakur, were booked under Section 354, 324, 323, 504 of 34 of the Indian Penal Code.

As per the punishment, they are supposed to clean the Naupada police station area of Thane every Sunday from 7 AM to 11 AM and 4 PM to 7 PM.

"The accused have done their job for the day. They were asked to sweep the floor for eight hours and they will continue this work for the next six months. A punishment like this serves well for people like them. While they were sweeping the floor, a few people clicked their photographs," a policeman from the same station said to media about the punishment.

"The punishment, which they were given, and that too in the area where they committed the crime, is too good. The accused should have been given one year punishment so that the other criminals might think before committing such crimes," said another resident.
