This article is part of a series on the International Business Fest at IIT Bombay’s Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management

AVENUES’ is the International Business festival of Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay. The event is planned, organized and executed entirely by the students. ‘Alankar’ is the Global Leadership Summit at Avenues. Alankar has an illustrious legacy with eminent personalities from diverse fields delivering thought provoking lectures and sharing their experiences with the students.
This year, Ms. Monica Tata, Managing Director, HBO India has agreed to grace the occasion as one of the speakers for Alankar-2014.

HBO (Home Box Office) is an American cable and satellite television network that is owned by Home Box Office Inc., an operating subsidiary of Time Warner. HBO's programming consists primarily of theatrically released motion pictures and original television, along with made-for-cable movies and documentaries. HBO is the oldest and longest operating pay television service since it has been in operation. HBO is also the haven for millions of young viewers around the world watching “The Game of Thrones”, which is one of the most popular shows being telecasted by the channel. HBO India, which is a subsidiary of HBO Asia is currently headed by Mrs. Monica Tata, who is the MD of the channel.

Mrs. Monica Tata joined the organization in April 2013, having resigned from the post of general Manager for Sales and Marketing in Turner International India. She is responsible for introducing and developing various initiatives to enhance the company's offerings in India and its subcontinent, including providing strategic direction and managing partner relationships. With over 24 years of experience in the Media and Entertainment Industry, Mrs. Tata has vast knowledge and expertise in the management of television networks operations. Prior to joining HBO, she had also worked as a part of the leadership team at Star and Turner. Throughout her career she has had a consistent record of increasing sales, making effective negotiations, analyzing profit and loss and strategic implementation of business operations.

Throughout her career she has had the ability to overcome obstacles and create new opportunities. She was adjudged amongst the 50 most influential women in media, marketing and advertising by a leading industry magazine - IMPACT in 2012 and 2014. She has also received Women Leadership award by World Women Leadership Congress in 2014. Mrs. Tata is also the Hon. Secy. of the International Advertising Association, India Chapter and a committee member for ASCI (Advertising Standards Council of India).

Mrs. Monica Tata’s leadership lecture has gathered lot of interest not only amongst the student community but also amongst the faculty of IIT Bombay. It would be really inspiring to learn what motivated her to undertake this responsibility and continue doing the same even while she became a parent and had to ensure a proper work-life balance.

Taking the legacy of Alankar forward, we have some eminent speakers from across industries lined up for the leadership summit this year. It would be an awe-inspiring experience for sure!
