NEW DELHI: Images of spiderman hanging out in the metro, smoking a hookah on a rooftop, offering namaz prayers, perched on top of a car in busy traffic, and rushing to catch the bus, have all gone viral. The images were taken by Hossam Atef, 20, a freelance photographer living in Cairo, and aim to show the difficulty of daily life in the Egyptian capital.

“We thought if Spiderman spent a normal day of an Egyptian’s life, what would happen?” Atef told Ahram Online.

Speaking of the experience, 21-year-old chef Atef Saad, who plays Spiderman on the streets, said, “He became exhausted! Even Spiderman could not take it in.”

In 2013, Cairo was ranked 122 out of 140 cities globally in a liveability study by the Economist Intelligence Unit. As such, “all Egyptians are superheroes for enduring these difficulties every day," Atef added.
