2nd IAS Officer To Quit Service As Act of Conscience

NEW DELHI: “...it is unethical for me to continue as a civil servant in the government when the fundamental building blocks of our diverse democracy are being compromised in an unprecedented manner,” wrote S.Sasikanth Senthil, a 2009 batch Karnataka cadre IAS officer, in his resignation letter from the service.

Senthil, 40, is the second IAS officer to have resigned in recent days, following Kannan Gopinathan from the AGMUT cadre who quit the service in August this year attributing it to the denial of freedom of expression to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Senthil is from Tamil Nadu and served as Assistant Commissioner in Ballari. He has held several positions in government and was currently the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district.

The bureaucrat further stated, “I also feel strongly that the coming days will present extremely difficult challenges to the basic fabric of our nation and that I would be better off outside the IAS to continue with my work at making life better for all.”
