Israel has bombed Iran. And made it clear that this is going to be a sustained operation. The first visuals resemble what has now become part of the West Asian trajectory ever since the Americans invaded Iraq —bombs and blasts and billowing smoke. Along with declarations from the aggressors about the damage inflicted on the ‘offending country’.

A new front has been opened even as Israel unofficially claims victory in Gaza, and US President Donald Trump tells reporters that the US now has Gaza. “We have Gaza,” he said and when asked under what authority said, “US authority” giving global politics a hegemonistic turn.

Some said an Israel attack on Iran was imminent. Other experts were positive that it was unthinkable. As it would lead to a global catastrophe and bring Russia into the war. The US President, almost on cue and visibly for form's sake, issued a statement pledging talks with Iran to resolve the nuclear issues urgently. An assertion that his “entire Administration” had been instructed to have talks with Iran. Just before Israel opened fire. An attempt really to distance itself from the attack, a fig leaf that has not really fooled anyone as Israel continues to fight with a steady, uninterrupted flow of weapons from Washington. From pretending to be a peacemaker Trump is now exposed as a lethal warmaker, with Israel as its major weapon for West Asia.

Palestine has been the route cause, with Israel created by the imperialists to pursue a colonising agenda in the region. Governments in the region have been used, and over used, to wage wars and create fissures. Such as Iraq against Kuwait; Iran against Saudi Arabia; Syria against Turkey; and so on. This was the initial phase with both Israel and the US keeping out of the internecine wars, even while encouraging and supporting one over the other. Of course the Israel vs Palestine conflict assumed legendary proportions and Tel Aviv used every war and every conflict to occupy, and strengthen its occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. As many believe Hamas was created and supported by Tel Avivi to create a fanatical image of a movement that had taken great pains, particularly under Yasser Arafat, to distance itself from any kind of terrorism. It had succeeded to a point, isolating and marginalising those within who believed in armed resistance. But then Hamas was born, and grew rapidly to take over the Gaza strip and feed into the terrorism profile that made the world so insecure. Interestingly though its reach was not extended to countries outside, but more towards Israel that then used its existence to legitimise its continuous violence, and as now to justify what the world recognises as genocide.

In the second phase the Americans bared their fangs, and took off the fig leaves to enter into direct conflict in West Asia. The countries targeted were at the time under the governance of leaders who had one point in common - support for Palestine. The invasion of Iraq pulverised the country, destroyed entire villages, killed and maimed thousands and brought in some kind of a government with direct links to Washington. In Syria Basher al Assad was forced out with the help of the Salafists and such, with Donald Trump now hailing the installation of a President who was not so long ago seen as a terrorist by his administration. In Libya Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown and killed, the last major support of the Palestinians, and the country is still not able to come out of factional infighting and uncertainty. In short three major countries have been neutralised. It must be recalled that none of these countries had a military of any worth, and over the years they had been neutralised completely in this sector. These were sanctions hit nations, struggling to survive.

The Gulf countries led by Saudi Arabia have been most giving of all, helping perpetuate colonial rule and occupation in the region. The recent visit of Trump to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates made sure that all fig leaves were burnt and the Royals of these countries were exposed totally. The big welcome, the glittering receptions showed up the ruling families of the Gulf as materialistic cowards, willing to strike any deal for survival. There was not a word about the plight of the Palestinians, the annihilation of Gaza, the killing of children and women, the starvation. Not a single word.

And now the third phase where Israel has come out, not just with respect to the Palestinians but as the real opposition to all countries in the region. The bombing of Iran is a signature to the Israel doctrine of continuous war. It had extended the violence already into Lebanon calling out Hezbollah, into Syria taking more territory, and now directly bombing sovereign Iran while the world watches. Here the response of Russia is awaited, as Vladimir Putin has been warning against any action on Iran. Trump is obviously trying to convince the world he is not involved, so that all can keep their statements directed at Israel which under Benjamin Netanyahu seems to have no qualms about establishing itself as a rogue state. A state without accountability, above all international law, and a brazenness that defies logic and reason, compassion and humanity.

The world in the process is being torn apart by violence. The people in America are on the streets demonstrating against Trump’s immigration policies with the ICE attacks on immigrants adding to the volley of violent videos flooding the internet. The war being waged by Israel in West Asia, the agony and suffering of the Palestinians, the hate and divisiveness has now acquired the potential to blow up humanity as we have known it, fragmenting morals and values and the law.
