After threatening Iran for months in the latest round of propaganda, US President Donal Trump has now stated that Iran wants to negotiate. And that a meeting is being set up. Even as he insists that he will hit Iran hard militarily if it kills the protestors.

This ‘wants to negotiate’ admission by Trump can be read by analysts as a backing off by the American President. Iran has always stated its willingness to talk, but except for the occasional ‘yes’ Washington has not given much credence to this outreach. That Trump felt pressured enough to say this much to reporters is more an indication of his willingness now to open the pending dialogue, and buy some time for the moment than the projected climbdown by Iran.

Unless there is some momentous shift in the current calamitous relations between Washington and Tehran, it will be safe to expect some halt in the run up to the near certain military attack by the US and Israel on Iran. The next few hours will show which way this wind is blowing, but if indeed the negotiation ‘offer’ is taken up by Trump it is for the following reasons, each having their own geo political impact on bilateral and global relations:

  1. After Elon Musk declared that Starlink was unhackable Iran, with Russian help it is said, has blocked Starlink that X had made available only to the protestors in the country. This is not a small achievement in the world of high-tech that Washington and Tel Aviv claim to control.
  2. Iran declared that if it is attacked it will wipe out Israel and US bases in the region. It did not bring this to the negotiation table as it were, but made an unilateral announcement. Significantly, even while Iran’s nuclear ability has drawn different responses across the world, its military ability to hit Israel and the American bases has never been under question. In fact, it is largely believed that over the years Iran has fortified its military and brought Israel and American military assets in the region under its radar.
  3. Russia and China have stepped up to offer Iran all military support in the impending war. Nuclear armaments have also not been ruled out. After the US attack on Venezuela, both China and Russia have come out strongly against Trump’s policies making it clear that an attack on Iran would not be tolerated. World War 3 has now become a reality, with all players stepping in.

America is finding the going tough now. ICE has brought together democratic Americans on to the streets with the murder of the young woman intensifying the outrage. War has also added to the grist with demonstrations being held in most major cities against the attack on Venezuela. The abduction of the Venezuelan president has brought the otherwise divided Latin America together, with even the opposition in the countries bridging the gap with their respective governments to warn Trump against further action.

His threat to take over Greenland has brought Europe on to the same page, with the leaders overcoming right and left differences to unite in their support for Denmark and Greenland. It is a ‘hands off’ verdict for Trump with European leaders issuing statements, and warnings on a daily basis.

And now Iran. It does seem that the only peoples the joint might of Israel and the US can pulverise are the Palestinians who have been caged for decades in an open air prison, have no military or the ability to fight back the most powerful armies in the world. They continue to be killed with the ceasefire there more to silence the world media than to actually have any impact on the ground. The silence of the Arabs has also made the task easy for Israel, although now it seems from early reports that Saudi Arabia is trying to bring together a coalition of sorts. Iran is expected to be included in this initiative, if of course it ever takes off the ground.

In short the world has been torn asunder by one man and his minions, as they seek to bring an authoritarian order in the US and impose their will on the world. It has been easier actually than expected, but it does seem that some sort of consolidation is now finally taking place that might put an end to some of the grandiose plans if not the grandstanding.
