Savitribai Phule Pune University, which was previously known as the University of Pune, is a collegiate public state university based in Pune, Maharashtra. Established in 1949, the university presently has more than 43 academic departments offering different types of courses to the eligible students. The Department of Statistics aims to prepare students who have exposure in the major areas of statistical methodology. The Union Cabinet has recently approved a program named Global Initiative for Academic Networks (GIAN) in Higher Education.
