India is a country that has been passionate about cricket for a number of years, so it stands to reason that they are going to have some decent venues to enjoy it at. That said, anyone who knows anything about cricket and India knows that the country love the sport and actually, it’s a sport that is played on every playground, in every garden and in pretty much every alleyway throughout the country. The game of cricket itself is always an exciting and fast-paced one that people tune into from all over the world. Places like Sportsadda even offer the chance to follow the live score and bet on matches. The fast-paced gameplay can mean that the stadium itself can be overlooked; however that really shouldn’t be the case as India has some magnificent cricket grounds on offer – here’s a look at some of the best ones.

Eden Gardens in Kolkata

You can’t possibly have an article on the best cricket grounds to visit in India without a mention of the oldest stadium – Eden Gardens. Situated in Kolkata it is also the most celebrated stadium and arguably has been the home to some of the most iconic moments in Indian cricket, but then when you consider it was built in 1864 you would expect it to have some history under its belt. With a hosting capacity of up to 80,000 people at a time, it is no wonder that some of crickets’ biggest games take pace here.

Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai

Previously known as the Madras Cricket Club Ground, Chidambaram Stadium has been the home to cricket matches for over 100 years. Since 2008 it has also been the home to the Chennai Super Kings – a team that is infamous for doing well throughout Chennai. There will be mixed opinions as to whether this particular stadium should appear on the list of greatest stadiums, but it has been host to some amazing games including the fastest triple century test history; which was achieved by Sehwag at the stadium in 2008.

Feroz Shah Kotla Ground in Dehli

Built in 1883 this 48,000 capacity cricket ground has been host to some amazing games in its time. The first match was played here in 1948; India Vs. the West Indies. It is currently home to Indian Premier League cricket team the Delhi Capitals. It has hosted the Indian national cricket team for over 28 years and for over 10 years in One Day International matches India has won every single one – incredible.

Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai

A more modern stadium but still one that is fantastic to visit and play cricket in. It was built in 1974 but don’t let its reasonably young age fool you into thinking it hasn’t seen any decent cricket history; because it really has. When you consider it has been the home ground for legendary players such as Sunil Gavaskar, Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane it is no wonder that Wankhede Stadium is considered one of the greatest cricket grounds in India.

When it comes to deciding the great cricket grounds to visit in India, there will always be mixed opinions. Some people consider a stadium great because it is easy to get to; others consider the amenities in the local area to be important.
