NEW DELHI: An eerie silence gripped Jamia Millia campus. In the days after the police crackdown on the university - the campus was dark.

Even as the protesters were down and out (albeit not for long) - the words on the walls stood out, as a testament to both the defiance and recalcitrance of the struggle. Refusal to obey. Refusal to bow down. And refusal to take dictations. The writing was on the wall!

Many question whether graffiti is art or vandalism. At that moment, to me it was clear. It is a tool. A tool to express anger. A tool of expressing a political statement. A tool to resist.
