NEW DELHI: The Haryana government announced that Gurgaon will be renamed Gurugram, and Mewat will henceforth be known as Nuh. Haryana is a historic land of the Bhagawat Gita and Gurgaon had been a centre of learning. It had been known as Gurgaon since the times of Guru Dronacharya. Gurgaon was a great center of education where the princes used to be provided education, " Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said, explaining the decision.

Twitter -- but of course -- had the final word on the decision, with users largely mocking the name change. “Gurugram. Do we like the new name? Nuh” says a caption with a clever play on the new names.

Even Chetan Bhagat joined in.

Several users thought the change was superficial:

When will the name changing stop? -- people wondered…

Some just took it to a different level…

This tweet probably hurt the most for the newly named Gurugrammers….
