NEW DELHI: Godman Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is in the news again. Expressing his disapproval over Pakistani education activist Malala Yousafzai being awarded the nobel prize, the spiritual guru said that he had once been offered the prestigious award, but had rejected it.

“I was in the past offered the Nobel Peace Prize, but I had rejected it as I only believe in working and not in being honoured for my work. We should always honour only to those who deserve it and I am totally against honouring Malala Yousafzai with the prize and it is of no use.” said Ravi Shankar (as quoted by Deccan Chronicle)

The Godman was answering a question posed to him whilst doing relief work in drought-hit Latur. “What is the importance of an award when it is being presented to a 16-year-old girl, without even looking at what she has contributed,” he added.

The statement was just about too much for social media to handle, as Twitter was flooded with comments mocking the self-professed Godman. (Note: As far as we’re aware, Sri Sri was never offered the nobel prize).

Sri Sri, however, quickly claimed he was misquoted -- a fact his supporters pointed to on the micro-blogging site.
