NEW DELHI: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has angered a very vocal section of society: India’s twitterati. The Minister recently appeared to link “RSS teachings” to India’s decision to launch what are being called “surgical strikes” against neighbour Pakistan.

"I wonder, with the combination of Prime Minister who comes from Mahatma Gandhi's home state, and I, Defence Minister, coming from Goa which never had any martial race, and surgical strikes. Maybe the RSS teaching was at the core, but this was quite a different kind of combination," Parrikar said whilst speaking at a function at a function, 'Know my Army', organised at Nirma University in Ahmedabad.

The comments sparked criticism on Twitter, with many slamming the Defence Minister for crediting the RSS with the strikes. The hashtags #IndiaAshmedOfParrikar and #ParrikarInsultsArmy were attached to several such tweets.
