SRINAGAR: “Curfew like restrictions” back in Kashmir for Muharram today. Barricades have been put up every 300-500 metres, trucks of paramilitary troops and police are lined up to ‘wall’ the roads and keep the people confined to their areas and localities. Muharram is observed by Shia-Muslims largely, and the streets are deserted. Locals claim that they these measures are unprecedented, with elders maintaining that they had not witnessed such restrictions even in the 1990’s at the height of militancy in Kashmir.
